Dyberry Township farmer Roger Hill of Treeline Farms was featured this week in this front-page article in the Scranton Times which describes his work to convert a conventional apple orchard in Pleasant Mount, which previously relied on chemical pesticides and fertilizers, to an orchard now grown following organic practices.
Roger is a man with a passion for apples and for restoring old orchards. In addition to consulting with orchard owners, he is also a soil expert and consults with local farmers on how to restore a healthy balance to depleted or substandard soil. He is a member of PASA, Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture, and a farmer/vendor at the Wayne County Farmers Market, which is open every Saturday summer and fall in Honesdale. Roger grows all of the seasonal vegetables he sells following organic practices.
