Transition Honesdale is a group of engaged citizens working to create a sustainable future by supporting the development of a more cooperative and resilient local community.
As a society, as a world, we are facing major challenges: climate change, peak oil, increasing scarcity of clean, fresh drinking water, diminishing areas of arable land, loss of biodiversity, massive deforestation, incredibly inefficient distribution systems, vast disparities between the rich and poor, civil and social unrest, failing economies, genocide and war…the list goes on and on.
We have adopted the Transition model, which emboldens communities to look these challenges squarely in the eye and, by celebrating and unleashing the collective genius of their own people, find answer to these big questions.
While we are sometimes overwhelmed or frightened by the instability of our current society and the uncertainty of the future, we realize that we are living in a time of great opportunity. We have the tools, resources and power to redesign the way we inhabit the earth with intention, inspiration and ingenuity. Instead of shaking our heads and saying, “Geez, this is terrible!” and waiting for something to happen, we are asking ourselves and each other, “What can I do…What can we do?”
We are quickly discovering that while this is challenging work, it is extremely rewarding, inspiring, and fun!
